Tranny overdrive Question???
Hey.. thanks for your responses on my oil pressure problem. Well now I am wondering if I have a problem with my tranny selenoid... When my 93' Bonny shifts into overdrive it will stay there.. buttt.. when I release the pedal, it shifts out of od... when I apply the gas it will shift back into overdrive and will stay there.. My question is.. is this normal?.. I don't think it is. But it'* been doing this since I bought the car last year.. Again.. please help me out on this problem..or is this normal.. Thanks..

my car does something similiar. I didn't know how to explain it. I was just going to wait until our Midwest meet and show the ppl there what my problem is. My car goes throgh 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear just fine. 4th gear takes a while to kick in until 45mph. Sometimes it will gointo 4th gear at 35mph. Then OD kicks in at 50mph. When I take my foot off the accelorator, the motor sounds like I put the car in Neutral. Until I put my foot on the accelorator again its back in the gears again. My 97 never did that.

I did remeber the thread too. I was speaking of anytime i take my foot off the accelorator , oh i didn't say this, i could be in 4th, no OD and still the car acts like its in neutral if i release the accelortor.

4th gear is OD, isn't it? When I take my foot off the gas, it drops to like 900-1000 rpm, and the car coasts. When I step on the gas, it locks back in and grabs to about 1800 rpm in 4th, or OD. Is this what you're talking about?? :?

Yes. But, it does this in all gears. Not just OD. I can do 30 mph and slow down, not pressing on the brake, and the motor sound like it automatically is in neutral. Wheather its on take off or highway speed, when I let up off the accelorator it sound like its in neutral. I thought the car suppose to downshift.

I have a 93 Bonnie that does the EXACT same thing. I've only owned it 2 months and at first I thought I bought a Bonnie with a bad tranny. Everytime I let up on the gas pedal when going 55-60+ the car down shifts and slows down. Then when you push the gas again the RPMs jump back up to 1600 or so. Makes me feel better that it'* not abnormal. I thought at first that it was a bad pressure switch or something. Either way...that'* gotta be taxing the transmission.

I'm pretty sure it'* normal behavior. Did you notice it'* hard to accelerate when the car is in OD? That'* probably why it has been programmed to drop out of OD whenever you accelerate more than just a little bit.
