This is the second time I have taken out a tranny. The first one cost me $2200 for a rebuild. This once (since it is a cracked case) can't be rebuilt...just replaced.

I am SERIOUSLY looking into other options such as new and slightly used cars. I do have my sisters old 6000 LE I can drive until I decide what to do. This is just something I didn't need right now. Not that anyone ever does...

I would look into the junkyards some of them have pretty damn good warranties. When was it that they rebuilt your tranny? No warranty with that?

Stock tranny cooler and no shift kits or other mods done to it.

Yup, $3300 usd. I could probably go to a tranny shop and not just my general mechanic and get a better deal, but either way it'* an arm and a leg. I am looking into finding a used tranny but considering a new car more as of right now...

I did some digging around and hit up a contact I have at work. Here is what I can do.

1) Used 4t60-e HD with 85000 on it, 30 day warentee, for $500 USD

2) Rebuild 4t60-e HD with 30000 on rebuild, warentee but not sure of length, for $750

3) Labor to install new tranny $400 plus fluids and filters

Otherwise

4) $3300 of the Serta fully installed

I am thinking of using options 2 & 3. If I can get the bonne to hold up for 2 more years I can then get myself a NICE new car and not just settle for one like I would have to do now.

2&3 are looking like decent deals. Beats getting one with 85000 miles on it and much cheaper than getting a rebuilt on from Serta.

If I rev the engine the speedo moves as if I am accelerating. It will go to 60 if I keep holding the throttle down. The whole time the car is sitting still.
Road speed is calculated from transaxle output shaft sensors somewhere, IIRC. Your disconnect with the drivetrain must have happened past that point. (For a long time here I thought somehow you were mixing up your tach with your speedo... )

As for the dashboard resetting itself while you're driving, I've seen that happen once or twice on my car when the alternator had quit on me and I was running on the battery... but hadn't noticed it yet. You may have a mostly-dead alternator in addition to all your transmission woes. While the transmission'* out of the car, pull the alternator as well, and take it someplace to get an output test. Most auto places will bench-test it for free.
