Well after having the VATS disabled on my 95 recently and my Lumina before that. I may have the same thing going on with the 93 now. I just have to say I hate VATS! Sorry I just had to vent that. So I went to lunch today at BK and when I came back out, and turned the key nothing. I had power to everything but it didn't make a sound when I turned the key. It would not turn or click or anything. So I started to check things out under the hood and found nothing. I wilggled the battery cables and shut the hood. Tried to start the car again and same thing all the lights and dinger and all work fine, just not a peep from the starter. So now I am flippin out and trying to call my partner that I work with and my boss to tell them yeah I don't think I am gonna make it back, but I lost the signal to my phone. So I just sat for a few thinking what the heck am I gonna do now. Then I try one more time it cranks a bit slow and vrooom. Not a problem since this afternoon. I hooked up the scanner on the way home from work to see if the battery was putting out the correct voltage and such and it was fine at around 13.8. The alternator and battery are new within about 8 months. So should I get the VATS disabled on this car due to the same exact symptoms as my last two? Tell me what you think. Thanks.

You need to pay attention to the Security light when it won't do anything. If its off then its NOT a VATS issue.

Slow cranking is typically battery, starter, or connections. Ground connections are just as important to keep clean as power connections and are often overlooked. So clean your cable ends, both ends of both cables sets.

a VATS issue that fixes itself would start normal, not slow.

When I had a true issue with VATS, I had the same symptoms, lights came on, but no spark. With the advice from a mechanic, I locked and unlocked the car using the door locks and the key fob lock several times each. It started like nothing was wrong..

Well the security light was blinking each time I tried to start it. As for the turning over slow it only did it that one time. I haven't had a slow turn since this happened. I am leaning heavily toward the VATS.

Sounds like it may be the beginning of a starter issue or a corroded battery cable as others mentioned.

I will check the cables and keep the starter in mind. Maybe it'* from all this moisture we have been having the last week and a half. I still wonder though since you mention 3 min reset on the VATS. It was about that much time between trying to start it and when it finally started. Maybe it did reset and thats why it finally started. Thanks for the info.

Well I finally found out that it was the starter. My Bonne left me stranded at work today. After a 15min ride on a flatbed and about two hours of work shes back on the road. I broke a tranny line when I pushed them out of the way trying to get the starter out. Lol! It is fixed now and no more rusty line. Thanks for your input and I hope the VATS holds up for a while.
