Default How do I know what type of shocks/struts I have?

My Bonnie rides like the Chrysler in B52'* "Love Shack" song -- "I got me a Chrysler that'* as big as a whaaaaaale."

I'm ready to replace the shocks.

The owners manual says nothing about electronic ride control, self-leveling, air adjust, etc.

How do I determine what I have? Do I have to replace with exactly the same?

www.rockauto.com shows several configurations and I am confused.

You don't have ELC or CCR on an SE. You have to decide if you want a refreshed OEM ride, or to stiffen it up with better response.

What are you after? And all 4?

Yes, all four corners. I would like to have a little stiffer than original. How do I get there, doc?

Monroe Reflex or KYB GR-2s. Both are guaranteed for life.

Run from Sensa-Tracs, they are junk after 2 years.

I recently replaced my 120,000 mile OE CCR struts (CCR not working, of course) with KYB GR-2 struts. Honestly, there is not a huge difference between the worn out OE struts and the new GR-2 struts. The car still rides like a whale...

(I can tell the struts are firmer, however, they are nowhere near the firmness of most new cars.)

They ride is reminiscent of a new 1985 Buick as opposed to a new 2003 Audi. Unfortunately, there are few choices for the H-Body. Good luck...

Try the Monroe Reflex next time. With them on the rear, after updating all my swaybar links, it solved ALL my rear end sway and boatiness. The car used to rail, now it REALLY rails.

Are the reflexes air? If so are they adjustable in bound/reboud ?

All Monroe struts are Gas. Regardless of whether they're also ELC compatible or not. ELC is for leveling, the gas is to control rebound. Although the ELC does help with rebound also.

The reflexes are the way to go, and dont wait forever if you want them. Once they are gone, they are gone for good.
