Default 98 SE runs sweetly after UIM/LIM job (oops-engine codes)

Thanks to all for help, pics, advice, etc, and also for putting up with my ravings.

TechInfo is great, and the Searches produced a wealth of information.

I'll put together a little post later regarding the surprises I got, plus some tips for the occasional wrench (like me).

(PS--engine check codes P0121 and P0171 have appeared)(see below)

APN (Auto Parts Network) #229679

For those that don't know, a narrowed stovepipe comes with the APN kit. (I heated the lower manifold a little {I had mine off and bare} and the pipe dropped right in, just using the right size tall socket to gently drift it solidly down to the bottom).

(PS Bob Dillon: I'll be sending you my UIM core, unless you have enough by now)

Good choice on the APN kit! It'* maybe the best aftermarket kit currently available, though I know from talking to Dorman, that they are doing their best to add value to their kits, while lowering the price to be more competitive.

Well, it was too good to be true. The check engine light is on. I didn't think I saw it last night during the test-drive, but it'* my wife'* car and I tend to keep my eyes on the guages and the monitor feature to the right.

It runs fine, although the idle is very slightly rough, and it does surge a little at a traffic light in drive after about 20 seconds or so.

Engine light is on constantly, no blinking, no off/on on hills, acceleration, etc. That'* an emmision problem, I guess. Have double-checked for forgotten hook-ups and places where I might have knocked something off. I went through the TechInfo coolant fill procedure, but is it possible that the pressure sensor on the left side of the UIM is detecting no coolant yet?

Well, off to somewhere to get the OBD-II read. (I don't believe there'* anyway else to read codes off, right?)

I still have a check engine light on after the same maintenance was done to my car around a month or so ago. I'll be eager to see what codes you get, as I seem to have a slightly higher idle too.

My results were

P0507- "The PCM has determined that the engine RPM is higher than expected for the current engine operating conditions".

P0300 - "Multi cylinder random misfire"

You could have toasted the O2 sensor with burning coolant. That would cause it. Perhaps the MAF sensor on the throttle body is contaminated as well. I had coolant thrown back into my throttle body due to my LIM gaskets failing.

Hey, thanks all!

Yeah, that'* a good idea on the O2 sensor. It does seem like it could be yo-yoing rich/lean/rich/lean etc.

Spark plugs sure look like something ate 'em down. TB area looks like it was spared, but I'll check anyway. Well, I'll get the codes read tomorrow morning at AutoZone. Maybe it wasn't me after all.

I'll post what I get.
