Let me introduce myself my name is andrew i just bought a 96 bonneville se. bought it for $2000 it has 98000 miles on it and i think i got a good deal. I have a few questions first the car feels great just driving around plenty of power but when i go to wot at a stop the car feels laggy doesnt throw you back in your seat. I drove a 05 Grand Prix and the car would pull very hard from a stop and jerk you around good. I cant get this car to peel wheels and it doesnt pull hard at wot. The car doesnt feel like its really starting to pull till 3000rpm. I changed the oil and put 10w40 could that be why? Or is this just normal? Any help would be appreciated.

its a 1996 bonneville se. hub caps and all. i have changed the oil, fuel filter, spark plugs, and air filter. I didnt change the spark plug wires since they were good still. Maybe the gap on the plugs is wrong i did.060. Also i put 10w40 would that have anything to do with it. The check engine light came on tonight could that be from the 10w40 oil. oil pressure is good stays at about 50 and the temp is good. I guess i wont worry about it. Any other suggestions

No, 10W40 will not throw a code but try to get the DTC code scanned anyway so that we have a basis for troubleshooting your problem with power. It may be related to the code you are getting.

The oil isn't the issue..it'* fine
The plug gap should be .060
What brand plugs did you put in? (BTW.. for some reason...most experience problems with Bosch)
If the check engine light came on...that'* good. That'll probably tell you what'* up and we can help you fix whatever it is and get you ripping tires and killing your transmission in no time.

I put in Bosch platinums. :? I dont have acess to a scanner and im not looking to put much money into it. I put new tires on it do you think the tires could be mushing so hard that it feels this way?

I think the check engine light is an indication of a problem. Hit up an Autozone if possible and get the code number.. bring it back and post it up. We can help you from there.

Otherwise..
No on the tires..
No on oil
No on other stuff

And while many have found problems with Bosch Plats...you might have good experience... there are a couple here that have..

Grab that code... and we can help .. don't buy any parts...just get the code for now.

I went down to autozone and it reads code P1870 Manufactuer Control Transmission. I forgot to mention my shifter indicator doesnt line up with what gear im actually in. Could this be why i have a code. The shop that installed the new high beam switch screwed it up and is going to be fixing it next week. Thanks again
