Default 98 SE, HVAC fan has a mind of it'* own, sometimes works

I have not experienced this myself, but my wife claims that most times the fan will not come on. She says that when it happens none of the speeds will work including HI, which if I recall will ususally work when the resistor is bad. I asked her to jiggle the switch left and right and she said that it made no difference. I drove the car and it worked just fine for me. I think that he car has adapted to my wife and has become menopausal as well....LOL.Can a resistor cause this problem or am I looking at a bad motor? I am concerned that when A/C season hits, I'll have a block of ice instead of an evaporator.

On another subject, I saw reference to a cabin air filter in another post, does this car have one?

I recently replaced my blower motor for the same thing. When it stopped working I could mess with the connector on it and it would kick back on. See if that helps you.

98 SE has no cabin filter. I think that'* 2000+ only

And, your fan may be going out. If you can get it not to work, try rapping it with the handle of a long screwdriver. If it comes back on, it'* the blower motor. If not, it'* probably wiring

Its manual control.....I just came back from my local parts dealer with a new motor. I removed the old motor and found that the rubber air snorkle is broken off, probably happened when they put the three motors in this car (that'* a whole nother story). Of course the cover with the tube is a dealer only and today is Saturday so JB Weld it is.... I am assuming by the looks of it that air is forced from the air box up thru this tube and blows on the armature thru the hole to keep the motor cool. I am also guessing that since my tube was broken and summer is finally on its way, the motor is overheating and shutting down. Reattaching the tube will resore the airflow and keep the motor running. I have a new motor now so I'm putting it in anyway. With 110K I think the warranty is about up...LOL

Cool Blower fan problems

I am having the same problem, where my blower fan works sometimes and does not work other times. I replaced the resistor and still seem to have the problem. Any suggestions?
