Default Change oil weight for winter months

Winter is coming and I am due for an oil change. Would it benefit my engine to a different weight for the winter, or should i stick to the default?

yes..

However if you feel you want to change, the factory recommendations for cold weather are in your manual.

Even though the Oil Cap on my Olds reads 10W-30. I use 5W-30 Dino from Dec thru Feb. The car turns over a little easier when the temps fall below 20 degrees F here in the Northeast. I believe GM recommeded 5W-30 for some 3800'* all year round. So when I take my annual trek down to Florida during the Christmas Holiday, it'* still fine to drive with 5W-30 while cruising the Florida (Autobahn) Turnpike.
