Default 3800SC Camaro swap

Does anyone know if the 3800SC engine will bolt to rear wheel drive trans? Camaro now has the 3.1 v6 . Will the whole wiring harness need to be swapped ?

I Think the bigger problem is going to be motor mounts. the SC 3800 are for front wheel drives and don't have motor mounts on the side of the block that a camaro will require.

Dead on the money....

The FWD engine block is not going to have the bolt holes for the engine mounts on the side of the engine block... So you problably will not be able to make it work... How ever you may be able to use a 3.4 V6 or even better yet 3400 V6 which is good for 180HP bone stock... But you have fun trying...

A guy I know has a supercharges 3800 in a 88 Camaro T Top. All he had to do was have this guy come he has welders in the back of a van.... All this guy had to do was fab a engine cradle in the engine compartment to hold the 3800 with stock mounts. Then he moved the mounts for the tranny forward and my friend had to get a longer drive shaft. The guy charged him an arm and a leg but who else has one of these in their Camaro?

What about the PCM? Will that work with the Camaro'* tranny since it'* different than the FWD tranny? And if you had a 5sp in the Camaro, what would the PCM do when it thinks there'* no tranny? How did that guy work all that out?

I can't understand why GM wouldn't have put the SC 3800 in the Camaro/Firebird. Guess they figured it would be too much competition for their V8 engine.

Another question, how different is the bare block on the N/A 3800 and the SC 3800? I mean it motor mounts are that big of a problem, couldn't you use the bare N/A 3800 block from a Camaro 3800 and swap in all the SC 3800 parts?

The mounts are totally different, and he probably had a custom PCM burned to solve the tranny problem. I was looking at that option when I was considering putting a 5spd on my car.

A guy has already done it. All he did was put L67 guts into his 3800 block, and the supercharger/heads/intake, and switch in a L67 computer and that'* about it. He started running high 13'* with the stock pulley and a 5spd. The article is online if you can find it. Tells you exactly what he did step by step basically.

And the newer Camaro'* always had the 3.8L....

Thanks for the ideas guys. I have the motor. Friend has tired v-6 camaro and likes the 3800SC motor. We're both pretty handy and it sounded like a neat car project. The changing all parts to standard 3.8 sounds like it might be way to go. Any idea what reworked computer runs?
