Default ABS Brakes ?

I've never done the brakes on my 1999se and I think it won't be long before I need to. I've done brake jobs on almost everything I've ever drove.
Now for the questions. I've had people tell me that they have screwed up their ABS brakes by pushing the piston in the front disc brakes back with a C clamp. Is this true? Is there anything I should be carefull of? Any recommendations?

Straightforward. All your previous experience applies, and you'll find the Bonneville to be quite simple and easy compared to many other cars. You might not even have to compress the piston. I use hands and thumbs alone. If you're going to use a clamp, just put a thin block of wood or aluminum (or mild steel) between the piston face and clamp so the clamp doesn't nick or ding the edge of the piston.

Moving this to 92-99.

You're very near by Brother. He lives in SC.

But I'm better with cars than him. And don't over-inflate my head. Alot of guys here know the same tricks as me. The Gearheads really run this place.

I've never heard of such problems but if your worried, just open the bleeder valve when you push in the piston. That way you are not pushing fluid back into the EBCM. Probably not a bad idea anyway.

Literally 15 minutes a side for the fronts. Buy rotors rather than have them turned. Faster and almost as cheap.

I use a screw-thread type thingy from the parts puppies to push the piston back in.

Oh boy (shaking head)

Bill...forget the block of wood...use the old brake pad...nice thick piece of metal to push on. Saves time chopping tree for wood.

Don't open the bleeder when you push the caliper back in.... open the master cylinder so you have a pressure release and slowly push the caliper piston back in.

If doing rear disc brakes...most need a special tool to TURN the caliper piston back in.....they are a screw type setup.
