the best way to check the sensor is by using a scanner. they are recommended to be replace at 60,000 miles. you can also use a mulitmeter set on AC scale and tap into the feed wire to the pcm off the O2 sensor. it will vary +/- .500 volts AC
it will go higher and lower as the fuel needs change. . less than .500 volts means lean and about .500 volts means rich. this should change quite rapidly. most of the time , they dont fail completely , they just get slower in response. if you have no idea when it has been changed, change it ! also aftermarket retailers still have to meet the same requirements as the dealer does on any and all emisson parts.

jeffrey10x2,
Didn't you mean th DC scale?
The way I check mine is to us a digital volt/ohm meter. Use the DC scale (if manual scales, set meter range to less than 1 volt). With engine hot and in closed-loop, the DC voltage range should vary from a min of .1 volt to a max of about .9 volt, but fluctuation probably between .1 to .5). At idle the voltage should be low. As you increase idle speed the voltage should climb (maybe erratically) and then steady out at low to low mid-range). A lower reading around .1 volt is preferable as that means you are running at a nice programmed pre-determined air/fuel ratio.

Do NOT use Bosch. If you ask for the info, we'll give you the negative testimonials. Many of us have had premature failures and poor performance from the Bosch O2'*. Our 3800'* eat them up.

I've got a CDN on-line store now. I'm already looking into the AC Delco route for products too. Hopefully, when the paperwork is all done , I'll get some decent pricing & will be able to pass that manufacturer line onto my customers too. I do work for GM, but perfer to keep my association with them at a minimal due to "Job Security" until my store will support me by it'* self & I don't have to work for GM anymore to pay my bills, etc.....
