Default Turn Signal Stalk Broken

The turn signal stalk on my 94 Bonneville broke off today. I removed the steering wheel and the cast metal bracket that the stalk mounts to and pivots on (like when when you hit the brights) broke. It does not appear that it was ever intended to be serviced. It pivots on a shaft (pin) that is driven in and it looks like I would have to gut the column to get it out. That is assuming that I can even get a replacement bracket.

Anyone know what years the columns will interchange?

My gut feel is that I should just replace the entire column. Any input???

Thanks!

Can't help on the Q about column compatibility.
But had the same thing happen a number of years ago on the 93. I suspect it is a weakness. I had to order/buy the whole switch assembly at the dealer (arggghh). Couldn't find a procedure, so dove in. Toughest part for me was feeding the assembly harness back down the column. Sorry, but the memory is weak on the details.

Well, I tore the whole thing apart and got the cast metal bracket out. Looks like it is made to be part of the switch - so I will have to get a donor piece from the junk yard.

The cast metal bracket that handles all the pivoting that the turn signal lever finally gave out.. It seems that a cam follower (that actuates the turn signal switch) that rides in a groove slowly seized and that put too much stress on the cast metal bracket. The lube in the groove dried out and caused the cam follower to bind. I will make sure that when it all goes back together, I will lube it well...

I know this is an old post, but was wondering how you fixed this.

I have a 93 with the same problem, the cast metal piece(that pivots) is broke and having trouble locating one. Most JY'* won't sell that piece, want to sell you the whole column. Any ideal'* on locating one?

I would say go to a self service junk yard. Same thing happened to my 93 SE and my brights dont work on my 92 due to this same defect
