Parking Brake Issues
Geez, this was scary. So I was parking on a snowy hill, and I put on my parking brake like I always do, but it wouldn't lock in place. The brake works just fine. I was just wondering if anyone else has or had this problem and what I can do about it. Thanks!

Check the locking mechanism by looking at it under the dash. It'* possible over time it'* gummed up and not catching.
If you push down slowly, do you hear the click, click click as it locks into the next tooth?
Can't remember hearing about anyone else with the issue.

I'm surprised no one else has had this issue, because it WAS recalled for the '92 models only... That said, I doubt it'* ice because I've been having this problem since November, but it hasn't gotten this bad until now. Bill, usually I do hear a "click click click" sound, and I still do, but it'* MUCH fainter; sometimes I can't hear it at all

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I recall reading something about a small spring in the ratcheting mechanism that could break, or become dislodged, that could cause the problem. It was quite a while ago, so I don't recall any details.

Consequence DEPENDING ON THE EXTENT OF THE LEVER RELEASE AND ROADLEVEL. THE PARKING BRAKE MAY NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE, ALLOWING IT TO ROLL, WHICHCOULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS 105.

assuming that they ceased production of the recall, what can I do about this situation? I park on a hill, so it'* pretty crucial that I have a parking brake being that I'd like to preserve my tranny as much as possible. Also, it does end up catching after a few jabs, but it usually take a couple minutes to get it right.
