Hello,
Recently my car has made a strange noise after startup- sounding like prolonged contact with something running inside. I took it to the local car repairman and he said it was the starter. The spring was getting old and the flywheel was beeing caught- so i guess i need a new starter he said. I have been looking for guides on how to replace the starter, with little success. I was wondering if anyone knows of a site that has a guide for replacing a 98' starter (specific for pontiac bonnevilles). I plan to be working on this with my dad, as a do it yourself project.

Welcome to the Bonneville Club. Starters are fairly easy to replace. I'm not familiar with your year but here are some general instructions that should work.

Disconnect the battery cables.
Disconnect the wires going to the starter making note of where each wire goes.
Usually there is a shim between the starter & mating surface.Loook for the shim so you'll know where it goes.
Unbolt the starter & remove.
