Hey guys, so here'* my issue, yesterday morning I was driving and the red BRAKE(!) light came on but I wasn't too far from home so I figured I could get there and check it out. About 6 blocks away from home my brake went right to the bottom. Now, it does brake, but again the pedal goes all the way to the bottom. I was able to jack the car and check which Brakes are the problem and it'* the rear passenger side and front driver'* side. Ive been able to locate a single leaking brake line so far. But I'm wondering if there could be bigger issue just because it seems really weird that those two brakes would go out at the same time and the other two seem to be working fine and all I can see is a single leaking rusty line. Maybe I just haven't located the other line and it was all just a coincidence but I'd like to know if anyone knows if this may be a bigger issue. Any help is appreciated.

Those two brakes share the same (leaking) brake circuit, and the other two wheels are on the other circuit. If you look in your master cylinder, you should find one well is full of fluid and the other is empty.

Fix the leaking line, refill, bleed the brakes and you should be good to go... (and stop! Har! Get it? Okay, never mind...)

The brake problem could be several things. I would say pull the rear drums off and inspect the rear wheel cylnders. If they are not leaking (rear wheel cylnders), inspect all the brake lines and calipers for a leak. If you don't find a leak, the master brake cylnder has probably failed.

I have a 1992 SSE. The rear wheel cylnders usually fail about every 50k miles and the master cylender every 100k miles. The shoes and pads have always lasted at least 100k miles and I have never had to replace the calipers. I always flush the entire system every 50k miles. Go figure.

My son just replaced the rear wheel cylnders, shoes, master brake cylnder, and flushed the entire brake system. The brakes feel better now than when the car was new. We bought it new Thanksgiving week 1991 and now has over 231k miles. Still has the original engine, transmission and CV joints. I don't have to add oil between changes and run the oil 7500 miles. I love the car and the HUD!
