Default Picked up a HUD at junkyard, replace in '99?

I went to the junkyard today and picked up a HUD and the dimmer controller for it. I also picked up a shift ****, and the PRNDL panel on the center console. I was hoping to get the whole console since the rear if mine is messed up. Also couldn't figure out how to take off the drivers seatbelt since mine is messed up. And didn't have the proper tools to take the horn off.

Anyways...on to the HUD. My '99 hud I can't see it during the day. At night it is fine though. The HUD I got at the junkyard seems to be different than mine. It has a E/M button whereas mine does not. Also, the dimmer was connected by a cable. Is mine the same way?

Would this even work in my '99? If so would it be brighter or is there something else making my HUD dim? Thanks

Most likely your HUD has a bad solder joint or something along those lines. The GP huds have a photocell that is frequently a cold solder joint and reflowing the solder works nearly every time.

The HUD you picked up sounds like it came from a 92-96 car. As I recall the connector might be the same, although the movement for the up/down mirror will be different. The 92-96 was cable controlled and the 97-99 was motor controlled. This might be an easy swap from your old one. I'm not sure though.

The numbers from 92-96 were larger and brighter.

Thanks Bill,

Where would this solder joint be? Is it in the HUD case itself? Or is it somewhere else in the dash?

I would rather keep the current one in there and try to fix it if it is an easy fix. Actually, I think it is the dimmer that is cable connected on the one I pulled. The movement is electric. On my '99 both are electric (I believe).

I also think there is something wrong with my auto headlights. They are constantly on, even when it is bright and sunny. What would this be?

There was a post or tip on cluggp, but the site is sluggish as usual. I need to pop my GP one out tonight and should have a Bonne one hanging around as well. I'll try and take some pics of both for comparision/explanation.

Tonight driving, I noticed that sliding the dimmer all the way down to dim makes it dim. But it also flickers, not only when touching the dimmer slider. But also when leaving it there and it will flicker periodically.

Is this the bad solder issue?
