Default yard transmission, CV shaft seems longer

Hello,
My 1992 SSE (supercharged) pooped out its tranny... I aquired another and numbers and everything seem the same... out of a 92. I have the tranny installed, that would be a long and painful story now, so that may come out later, BUT the CV shaft will fit snugly in the transmission and the clip locks in, and it fits in the Hub too. When I am trying to get the lower ball joint back on, I am a good 1 1/2 - 2" off. The angle isn't right. I have tapped on the inner with a screwdriver and it has seated as far as the original, the outer fits flush on the back of the Hub. Any ideas? This sucks... First to answer gets a beer.

Thanks

Ensure it'* the right tranny from the EXACT year and MODEL..

Although..I wouldn't think axle length changed.

Default bizarre car

I used an axle off of a NA'd motor... my car is weird. It is badgeless... no SE or SSE or SSEi on it... There is a SC under the hood, The "hood carpet" says SSE, and the floormats say SSEi. Boost gauge is present. I looked at a BUNCH of axles and mine needed to be about 1 1/2 - 2" shorter.... the N/A Bonneville took that axle... the Park ave, riviera, LSS, that were supercharged took either the SC bonnie or the NA bonnie, regardless of the supercharger being on all of them.... What the H*$$ was GM thinking? This car is bizarre. It is a shame that I am too attached to it... stupid cars.

Thanks for the quick input, I know I can always get the response quickly here!!

The 92 supercharged models had weaker axles then the 93 and newer, so the NA axle should do fine for you. Although 93 and newer axles would have been preferred.

If you have the boost gauge, you have the SSEi, and someone debadged it.

Default funky axles

Thanks Wilren,

I bought it like this, it is weird. but the NA'd axle was shorter... the SSEi Axle was about 1-2" longer, the angle for the Lower Balljoint to go in was SOOOOO off. Out of desperation I pulled the axle (this is the third one, mind you) and opted to try the axle of the NA, which was a different number. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was going to go in, no problem. Sure enough, 1 1/2 days of fighting with the wrong (right) axle, it popped in like no problem.... everything lines up and looks good. I am gonna go out and finish changing the filter and gasket, button everything up top and start her up again. I am getting a little "Pontiac Excitement" again... woo hoo.
