Default '95 SSEi Fuel Problems/Vibration

Hey all,

Yesterday, while I'm out driving to my folks, all of a sudden I'm getting this horrible vibration - the whole car shakes, and a rather strong fuel smell when the rev'* hit about 1500 RPM. I thought at first it'* bad fuel, but now...it'* still doing it today on the drive to work. Any suggestions on where to start looking? The motor is a 3.8 L supercharged Series I. I've only had it six months - this tears me up if it'* something major. Any help is much appreciated.

On a second note - anyone in the Calgary area own a '95 Bonnie that knows something more than just how to stick the key in the ignition? My ex-mechanic buddy (who, btw, managed to screw up my '82 Malibu with a 267 V8 small-block) I don't want ANYWHERE near my Bonnie, so I'm looking for somebody reliable who KNOWS these models inside and out.

Thanks again for your help!

You have a misfire. Ignition.

By not igniting the fuel, it'* just dumping into your exhaust creating the smell.

Pull all 6 plugs and inspect them. They should tell the story. Check your coils per the info in Techinfo (link at the top of the page). Check the resistance of the plug wires as well.

If you don't know how old the plugs or wires are, just replace them. I suggest Belden Prem. wires from NAPA and NGK TR55 V-Power plugs gapped a .060".

Thanks, Will, you're a godsend, for answering a question I'm sure has been answered a zillion times before. I'll check my NAPA here for those plugs and wires - I'll replace them, since I don't know the age of these.

Default SSEi fuel/ignition problems "Update"

Will, thank you a dozen times over for your timely assistance. My lovely red Bonne is now purring like her big cat self once more, with new NGK plugs, new wires, and the biggest thing I would never have thought of, if it hadn't been for your reference, the BC pages and the Techinfo sheets, a brand new coil. When we tested it, there was no reading in either the primary or the secondary windings. A new coil here, btw, was $45 CAD. All in all, the total fix-it price with the NGK TR55 plugs, Blue Streak plug wires (the Beldens weren't available right away), and a new coil came to just over $100 CAD. It was well worth it. The mechanic buddy even asked several times - "Where did you get all this information?" I smiled and gave him the website addy.

A very happy Bonne owner.

Laura *. <waving Hi from Canada>

We'll see you at WCBF then? A few cars come from your neck of the woods. From the Red Deer area.

Glad you got it going, and if you can make the meet, that would be great! (end of July in Oregon)
