Request economy exhaust advice
Hi, I have a few questions about replacing exhaust parts.
I have a '92 supercharged with 160k miles.
It seems my factory cat has split on the passenger seam. I can feel the exhaust with my hand there.
I have to get this repaired as economically as possible, but I understand that sometimes spending more is better in the long run. I am not a horsepower fanatic. I like power, but I do not race etc. I want to make the car safe and get rid of the "exhaust leak" sound.
I have read some of the posts...and I see that magnaflow ($99) is the most suggested cat.
I found the folowing on jegs site...Dynomax 289-15032 2.25'' In/Out, 13.25'' Long $53.99 ... will this work?
Next, do I have to worry about my exhaust after the cat being plugged? I was told that when a cat plugs up it can send a bunch of crap down the pipes to the muffler(*) and plug them. Is this true?
If I do have to replace the muffler(*), what is the most affordable route? I plan to buy the parts and have the work done so there are no clamps. The exhaust shop will have to provide and bend any pipes needed...
I do not mind if the car is a little louder than it was on the day it was born, but I do not want it loud like a muscle car.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Get that Magnaflow cat off ebay for around $40 shipped.
For a stock sound muffler, I'd guess Midas can get one for you. But will probably cost more than ordering an aftermarket one.

Borla is great if you want it quiet but with a nice sound. I got one and I like it, it might even be quieter than the stock one...but the note is so much nicer! The car I guess purrs you could say, it sounds nice. Also from what I have seen they offer some of the best performance and economic gains. They do tend to be a tad expensive, but that all depends on where you look I found mine for $99 shipped. I thought that was a really good price considering an OE one from Advance was over $100.
