Default Transmission Whine

It was a nice day here today and I was driving around campus and thought about something. What makes the 4t60E whine in first and second gear. The noise is common between cars. there is a few other H bodies and they all have this whine. It is very noticeable from outside the car. like I said it only does this under 20 mph and in first and second. what causes this mystery sound??

No whine here, at any gear or any speed.

I know exactly what you are talking about. My dad'* 93 makes the whine up to about 20mph. Its kinda annoying to him.

Mine whines also but other than that it seems to perform fine. No rough shifts or stumbling. Had the tranny flushed after I bought the car with 161000 miles on it. No problems.

Are you sure that'* the transmission and not just the exhaust? There is no resonator on the 92 and 93.
