belt/pulley noise
i am having a squealing noise someplace comming from the belts or a pulley. I took the supercharger belt off and the noise went away. there is alot of play in the supercharger pulley. i was wondering if the noise is probably my supercharger coupler going, and if so how had it is to change, and what i need in order to replace it.
thanks

sc coupler going is not a squeal, more like a rattle. The squeal is coming from an idler, pulley, or belt. Unless of course, you spin the sc pulley and hear a sqeal, then it is sc bearings.
to replace the coupler you'll need a new coupler, sc oil (8 oz.), and red gasket maker. Intense-racing.com sells the complete kit. You just remove the nose drive bolts, pull apart, replace coupler, reassemble, and add oil.

its a squeal that starts quiet and get louder and higher pitched with engine speed. there is also a slight rattle sometimes. at higher rpm i can't hear the squeal. if it is possible the bearing is going also, what do i need to do to replace that?
also, with the 3.5 in pulley i still max out the boost gauge instantly when i floor the car.

bearing replacement is something most people cannot do themselves. One way to test belt squeal is while motor is running, drop a little, as in not alot, of wd40 on the "gator" side of the belt.
How you test the coupler is by rotating the sc pulley back and forth. If you fell/hear a knock when you change directions, that is coupler play. You should not be able to pull on the sc pulley and have it move in and out.

i have already tested for belt squeal, it'* not the belts themselves. i have a bearing press available, so i will probably be able to replace it myself, but i will check in the morning for play forward and reverse and in and out and i'll report back.
