Default Dead series 1- what can I put in it?

I apologize if this is a repost, but the search is horribly inaccurate with key words (no offense intended to the moderators or site admins).

I have a 93 Bonneville SE (NA) and I pretty much am going to have to replace the motor as a more cost-effective (and sane) option. So given that the motor is an NA 3800 Series 1, are there any better engines that I can use without modifying the rest of the vehicle (such as the series II or III)? I'm guessing that the SC'* would not be an option here since they would probably require a different tranny.

Tranny'* are the same but you'll need new pcm with anythign 94 and up. 92 isn't as desirable because there is no EGR valve, and it burns a lot of exhaust valves etc cause of this, and it doesn't have roller rockers like the 93 and up does.

94 was a transition year, it had obd II hookups on a obd I pcm, and therefore causes problems, also had a different PCM. You're easiest native transplant is a 93, N/A or */C really. But if you can't find one, or want more performance, i'd say find a seires I or II l67 (supercharged) If you're swapping, might as well do it with the biggest toys! They aren't much more expensive either. I'd avoid series II N/A because of the intake manifold problems as well.
