Default changed my oil

I've been changing oil for a few years now, but in all my time i've never been confused like this. i've changed it in my car 3 times since i've had it.
but the last time i changed it, a few days ago, drained it and relaced the filter and put the plug back in, then i put in 5 quarts of 10w30 (i buy it in the big 5 quart jugs) I poured it all in, started the engine let in run for about 30 seconds to a minute and then checked my oil.
when I checked it it showed that it was a about maybe a quart over, i thought that it was odd but i didnt get concerened. so i kept my eye on it, i checked again before i left my dads and it was still like that.
i checked it again the next day and then again today and its still over? what is goin on here?

Just let a little out. You'll be fine. That half quart probably won't kill you, but it'* best to be safe.

Have you considered that your cars Testosterone level is high right now, causing the dipstick to get longer?

Or is it female?

I've always let the oil drain completely out and always replace the filter. I put 5 quarts in all the time, and it'* right on the full line. Never with any problems.

Another thing you want to consider is having your car warm when you check the oil so the oil is circulated thoughout the engine rather than having it all in the oil pan. Some vehicles dipsticks are calibrated to check the oil when the engine is warm, some when it'* cold. If you check the oil and your engine is cold, most of the oil will drain back into the oil pan, therefore telling you that you have more oil when the dipstick is actually calibrated to check when the engine is warm.

If I'm not mistaken, the owners manual for my car says that the capacity is 4.5 quarts when not replacing the filter and 5 quarts if you replace the filter.
