Default Possible LIM/UIM Problems?

After searching all over for a couple of days about putting in a 180 thermostat, I went out and checked my coolant reserve tank...This is where i first started to worry, since the coolant is no more an orange color, but looks like coffee. Could this be oil in the coolant? And if it is, where do I go from there?

what does the water feel/smell like?

Have you flushed the cooling system yet?, sounds like a good time.

Thats not a good sign. If you haven't read the tech article below, I suggest you do so asap. I would plan on changing out the LIM gaskets and UIM even if you currently beleive them to be good.

96bonnie, you do not have a UIM, as your supercharger acts as the UIM (upper intake manifold). If anything, your LIM gaskets are going. Please check your oil, if it has ANY signs of mixing with coolant, drain it ASAP, or you will damage your bottom end.

As stated, the UIM failure is not valid with a supercharged engine. But your LIM gaskets are just as susceptible to DEX failure.

I'd suggest flushing the cooling system and preplacing your coolant with Dex-compatible fluid, and change your LIM gaskets at the same time.

i would probably have the stealership do the procedure.....would it be bad to replace the thermostat with a 180 degree while they are flushing everything? I live in nebraska and we can get some cold winters, not as bad as other states obviously, but I'm a little worried that my car will not warm up properly...also, I have noticed my temp guage easily going over the 200 degree mark, which is why i started checking all of this stuff out

I would go to a local Radiator shop and have them pressure check the cooling system. Wont be too much $$ and they would be good for flushing as well.

When does it go over the 200 mark (and by how much)? going fast, in traffic, AC-On/Off?

it will easily almost go to the next mark past 200 while idle/city driving, but when im going 60 down the highway it will go back down to just a tad over 200
