Transmission slipping into neutral at speed
Hello,
Our secretary has a 1996 Bonneville SE. This morning on the way to work, apparently she was entering the highway at about 50 mph, when the rpms went up as though she were in neutral. She told me that she pulled to the side of the road, turned the car off and then turned it back on. Put it in gear and everything worked fine again. She did mention that the traction control would not turn off after that.
Apparently it happened yesterday on the way home as well.
Sounds like it happened as the car shifted into overdrive? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the TC is slipping and getting hot therefore not engaging. when the car was truned off it resets, and all goes back to normal TCC lockup wise. The car forgets that it didnt go into TCC lockup before

I had the 93' do that to me once about a year ago. It shifted rough into 4th and it then dropped into neutral. Cause of problem, low fluid because of a leaking trans line.

yea that is what i meant "fail safe" not limp mode. the trany might go from 3rd to neutral because of low fluid in the tranny, and not being able to lock up the TCC,but yes a scantool will be the tell-all of this problem
