Same thing happened to my '93 SSEi. It turned out that the little rubber pegs within the pushbutton assembly were spongy and didn't have enough rigidity to push the switches.

See the post about repairing this in the techinfo section.

Another possibility is that the wiring connection to the 2 wires for the steering wheel radio controls is open, or that the coupling device in the steering wheel is defective, but I'd bet the problem is spongy rubber pegs.

Good luck.

First off, check to see that the Radio itself all works fine! If it does not then, disconnect the battery for at least ten minutes & then re-connect it again & then try the Radio & UK3 Controls. If this doesn't fix it then your UK3 Controls are worn out & will need to be replaced probably!

Is it safe to assume that they worked correctly at one time? Do they light up when you turn your headlamps on?

If the SWC do not light up, then I bet they are disconnected. You have to take the steering wheel apart to get to the wiring harness. I am wondering if your car was supposed to have the steering wheel controls, or if someone else added a different steering wheel on.

I wonder if there is a way to tell with the serial number..etc?

How hard is it to take apart?
