Should be 18...although some aftermarket replacement tanks could be gotten with 20 gallon capacity.

(See Scott...I'm not calling you crazy this time)

well this morning I had 318.2 miles and put in 13.53 gallons of gas.
at this point it is at about 1/4 tanks or just starting under. then the check gauges light starts to ding. so I acutaly have 4.5 gallons left. that is another 100 miles. I got 23.5 MPG today but that is down from the 25mpg I was getting.

The gas tank is original the car was my in-laws before mine and they had it since new.
the problem I have is the car anyt time you get to about 3/8 tank of gas and go around the corner it is like it runs out of gas I am guessing the baffles in the gas tank. This really sucks when getting on the highway and you make a clover leaf and have to get on the gas pedal to get up to speed. There is a delay till the fuel pump catches up.

thanks for the info on the tank!

Does it ever die when you are under 3/8 tank and come to quick stop, especially while going downhill? Mine did this and it was because the strainer fell off the bottom of the fuel pump.

I have a dead stock '93 SSE, and a few weeks ago, stopped to fill up. I had 1/4 tank when I went to work, and about ten miles later, the guage was showing a llittle under that, so I pulled into a gas station based on the posted price, a few cents cheaper than down the block.

17 gallons, I thought I was cutting it close, then 18, wait a minute, I must have been on fumes or something, 19, WAIT A MINUTE, 20.9gals the pump finally quit. I was SO hot. I paid for the gas and left. I went right next door to the cop shop and spoke to the desk sergeant and told him I wanted to file a complaint. He was going to get back with me and hasn't yet, so I need to call him.

Is there any way that I could squeeze nearly 21gals into an 18 gal tank? I think the idiots at the station have got their pumps set to sell about ten percent more than they're pumping. Is that possible? Better question, perhaps, is how likely is the state to miss the difference between the fuel flowing into their tanks and the fuel flowing into mine? I can't believe they wouldn't catch on. Of course, if they're collecting more fuel tax than they might otherwise, they might not say anything about it.
