Default highbeams once again...please help

Still having problems with my highbeams from my post here:
http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...550&highlight=
I havent really looked at the bottom of the hush panel yet, I am about to go out now, but on the column there is a plastic panel that will not stay in place, I assumed it had something to do with it. I got the drop light and took a look on the inside of the panel, I see a metal rod not connected to anything, and cannot see where it should connect, but I would assume that is the actual rod that turns the switch on and off, but where does it connect? When I play with the rod it doesnt turn on the highbeams anyway, what are the chances it is disconnected on both ends? I looked in a Chiltons manual for the bonneville and have no info on the highbeam switch, and a Haynes for a Trans Am but they have the same highbeam system, but nothing. Help me PLEASE
Here is a pic of the plastic panel I am talking about

Thanks for any help!!

Ok, I checked the actual switch, the rod was not connected at either ends, I reconnected it at the bottom where the rod goes into the switch, anyone know where the rod connects to on the steering column? They work, but need to finish off the column and I can go to inspection, anyone know? I have no clue where...
Thanks again

Looking at the service manual, there is supposed to be a dimmer switch rod actuator that rests on the bend in the dimmer switch rod. Then there is a base plate that goes over that. The lever looks like it mounts on the base plate. And from there you have the housing cover and a square cap that goes on the back.

yeah, me too, dont really see what goes where, on the car the only cover I have is I guess the vanitycover in the pic above, then just a metal rod sticking out nothing on it just the rod. If you can scan it or even just take a picture of that picture it would help me tons. Please?

On a side note, the service manual you looked at, is that the 2 vol set by any chance? Or got the number for the book so I can order it? It sounds like that book would be very helpful in the future. THANKS !!

Gentlemen, I don't have a scanner, otherwise I would do it for you...

Here is the factory manual link:

Can you try another dealership? I do think you're on the right track and the rod you've found is the dimmer switch actuator rod, but I can tell you this is _not_ a fun reassembly job even without having to deal with broken parts; if you need to replace one or more busted items as well, you may be better off having a GM dealership fix it (it doesn't need to be Pontiac; any GM brand will be familiar with the assembly). They get a lot of experience with this while doing theft repairs on broken steering columns.

There Is only one GM dealerhip in town. Pete Mankins Pontiac Cadillac Saturn (Other GM Brands Here). They are a**hats. Ithink I'll just wait for my book, buy the parts off gmpartsdirect and just b***h about how much the install sucks.
