Default 1997 Bonneville SE Won't Start - STARTER?

I was coming home last night and noticed that the car was overheating. I got home and let her sit overnight and I was going to deal with it in the morning. I filled up the radiator and the resevoir and went to turn her on and it wouldn't start. It is not the battery, power is on full, radio and amp kicks on, lights, the whole nine yards. I did a jump start just in case, still didn't work. When I start the car I don't get the clicking sounds common with the battery either, it sounds like something is stuck. It doesn't attempt to turn over, I get almost nothing. Partial 'grind' and then it just sits there. I am thinking that it is the starter, actually I am hoping and praying that it is the starter. What do you guys think :?:

How hot was it?

Have you disconnected the battery and then try to turn the engine over by hand?

Your description sounds very much like you seized the engine. Let us know any more details you can provide.

It sounds like another failed upper intake which hydro-locked the engine.

Read the sticky in the 92-99 forum.

Good point, keep forgetting about that. You could also remove the spark plugs and see if it will turn over.

That doesn't sound good at all! What does that mean in the big picture? Aside from a new upper intake, is there gonna be some major damage to the engine also?

What I would do is remove the spark plugs and crank it to free the water from the cylinders (if any). If you get water out, then immediately drain the oil. That will also remove the coolant from the crankcase. The coolant will eat at the bearings. If you remove it quickly enough, you will most likely avoid damage to the crank.

Then, it'* own to finding the cause of the failure. Most likely it was a combination of the upper intake manifold and lower intake gaskets failing. An excellent procedure that I used for changing my upper intake and lower gaskets can be found here:

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...595&highlight=

And, of course, follow the procedure outlined in a Chiltons Manual for the proper torque specs, etc.

BTW, how many miles are on your car?

Thanks for all of the valuable information and the links. I am going to start with the starter I think if it looks like it needs replacing, not sure what I am looking for though. I found this on ebay, I assume that is what I need to replace what I have plus I need to get the gaskets and change my oil and do a radiator flush. I got the manual for my car and some knowledgeable friends so I may be able to tackle thison my own. My car has 125k miles on it since you asked. Anything else I am missing?
