Why Now? A weird LOUD screeching noise
So, yeah, I've got quite a loud screeching noise coming from my engine bay, and, considering where it'* going in two weeks, needs to be fixed!
HELP!
It only screeches at certain times, I've actually only had it happen once, but it was LOUD and ongoing, and It was right after I started moving from a stop I drove it for 5 minutes back to my dorm, and then I thought I heard a faint screeching when I went to park it. I don't like screeching. It made my wallet want to go hide. Please help me

Actually, this might be a false alarm, because I just remembered I had the parking brake on, and when I took it off, it started making this noise. It'* been sitting still for about 4 days, sitting through a couple rain storms. Do you think this could be the reason? Am I paranoid? Do I need counseling?

screech
screeching after rain is usually moisture buildup on the serpentine belt or pulleys.
If it does not go away after drying out you should pull the belt off and turn each pulley and check for bad bearings or failed pump.

i had the loud noise too. it ended up being the a/c pully was locking up. the clutch was froze and metal shavings were coming out of it. it took me a week to find the problem because it would come and go.
just an idea....

Belts squeal when they slip. Like willwren suggested, either a pulley is offering too much resistance because the pulley itself (like an idler) or the component it drives ( PS, ALT, AC, WP) is failing; or, the belt tensioner may be getting weak. One way to check for a pulley that is offering too much resistance - look for a black dust of rubber crumbs. They usually pile up around a pulley that is so hard to turn that the belt slips. The tensioner should provide 50-70 pounds of tension. This can be measured quickly and easily with a belt tension gage.

That'* what I BELEIVE it to be, being that all signs lead to that conclusion. I do have an extra serp belt in Akron, so I'll have my uncle send that down. Hopefully that'll do it.
Oh, one more thing, I had a bit of a WOT(not street racing, don't worry, highway on-ramp) run right before it, could that have done anything?

All the sympotoms point to a wet belt. It'* the right time of year, weather has been right etc etc. It would be a wise idea to check the marks on the tensioner to ensure the tensioner is providing the proper amount of tension.
As afar as getting on the highway squealing, the belt can get heated, frayed or other slight damage from squealing. The squealing is slipping, slipping can lead to heat and that can be bad over time. Look over the belt for any signs of problems.
