1998 SSEI transmission problem
Man, there is a forum for everything these days, I am glad you guys are here.
I am a newbie here obviously but I did post an intro in the introduction thread.
What I have going on is a shiting problem in my girlfriends '98 SSEI, 3800 supercharged, it shifts so hard it gives you whiplash at anyspeed, sometimes when you stop, it won't down shift so you take off in 2nd or 3rd gear. My first thought, maybe because it is a cheap easy fix was shift solenoids sticking...........my other thoughts are a lot more expensive and would probably end in the demise of this 235,000 mile car.....that would be sad.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance for any help.

sounds like it could be the shift solenoids to me also, however, don't plan on that being cheap, as they are inside the transmission, and the transmission will have to be removed in order to replace them.
are you getting any Check Engine lights?
edit: 235k on the original drivetrain? I'd be happy with what it gave, and probably start looking for a new transmission/car

No check engine lights, I know the parts are not too bad price wise. You only have to remove the side pan don't you?
I guess I should have mentioned that I was a Transmission Tech at a GM dealership back in the early 90'*. The Electronic tranny'* came out right as I was leaving the buisness so I am not as familiar with them as I would like. This is basically a 440T4 with electronic shifting isn't it? o be honest I am not sure what Transmission this has, i was assuming a 4T60E-HD

It seems that it'* actually called a pressure control solenoid. It'* symptoms are shuddering on take-off.. You have not mentioned these being the issue.
Here is a link to 3800pro where I found that much out.
