Default Headlight Hi-Beam Switch

Does anyone know what part contains the high-beam switch? When I pull my cruise / wiper switch forward like I noramlly would to activate the hi-beams, it just bulls back and doesnt "click" and activate the hi-beams. It sounds like something is broke. I'd like to replace this piece and fix it but I'm not sure what its called or what involved? Any idas? Advice?

Thanks!

Chris, if your Goat is like most cars, the switch itself is activated by a rod, and is located partway down the column on the way to the brake pedal.

Is it on the Goat or the SSE?

Take off the hushpanel above your pedals (4 screws) and the lower column shroud. You'll see the rod coming down the left side of the column to the switch.

Wow, its that easy? I just called the loacl dealer the the hell of it and they said I needed a new turn signal switch, and would have to remove the air bag and steering wheel to replace it. It was only $45 for the part but sounds like a big PITA. Wonder if that switch is dealer only or AC-Delco, and what it runs. I'll check it out tonight when i get home and see whats going on with that rod, and if its moving or what. It doesnt even click at all when I pull the lever, so it could be something more. I wish I had my factory service manual at work with me :(

Same problem on my new2me Bonne 93 SE.... but it'* the: Hi beam, turn sig, and all!
Yep! PITA job. I will have to tackle this within the next week, as I have to have it Inspected for safety and emissions, here in N.J.
I ordered a parts list book, last Monday, in preparation, and soon as it arrives I'll post the part numbers. ( if no one else has)

I don't want to do it twice, so..... no recycled parts for this guy... :P

Can we "sticky" this thread? .....as this seems to be a common with this setup.

Charlie, your problem is the multi-function lever, not the hi-beam switch. Sounds like Chris only needs the switch, and it'* located some distance from your problem.

Willwren,
My issue is the connection inside the column, that the multi function lever snaps into.
( fig 9.7, section 12-4, of the Haynes #19020 manual)
Lever itself, is fine, and the actual connection between the lever. and connector is ok , ( that is... it snaps in OK)

It is the connector that goes to the multi function/ turn signal switch that is physically broken, making the lever
seem like a broken wrist, which moves freely within the opening but actuates nothing.

So you're saying... his issue is further down the column??
Haynes is unclear about the hi-bm sw

You have two problems. The base of your multi-function lever is broken. Or the socket to use a better term

Chris'* problem:
Does anyone know what part contains the high-beam switch? When I pull my cruise / wiper switch forward like I noramlly would to activate the hi-beams, it just bulls back and doesnt "click" and activate the hi-beams.
The hi-beam switch is activated by a steel rod that runs from the base of the multi-funciton lever to the hi-beam switch, which is mounted at least 8-12 inches farther down the column, as already stated above.

You have two distinctly different problems.
