Default TPS issue? (98 Bonne SE)

I was snooping around my car earlier thinking about cleaning my MAF and check everything else on the intake since I had found some leaves behind my air filter. Car was running fine though. Anyway I took off the throttle position sensor and when I turned the thing on the sensor itself to see how the spring was holding up it sounded like it had some sand or dirt in it. So I blew it out and put it back on. I didn't even get to checking the other sensors before a buddy of mine called me and I decided to leave (in the car I'm looking at).

So I start it up, the car seemed to be idling higher than usual, it gave me a pretty rough shift into reverse and drive (because idle was high), I drove a few miles and the car was not shifting up at the right times and when I would slow down the speedometer was dropping really slow and seemed to be completely off anyway. I drove it back home, put it into park and the car was still idling really high (like 1,800-2,500 RPMs) DId I put it back on wrong or something? possibly mess something else up? I'm waiting for it to cool down right now since the damn thing is right above the exhaust and hotter than hell at the moment. I just want to know what I should be checking for, I'm guessing I put the TPS back on wrong or something. I checked my chilton manual to see if it could show me anything and as usual the thing is a worthless piece of **** that doesn't tell me a damn thing.

well it cooled down, I took the sensor off again and put it back on and figured out it would be impossible to put it on wrong. The car seems to be idling fine now and shifting like normal but it still seems like the speedometer is not dropping as fast as it should. I'll be coming up on a stop light from going 50 mph and by the time I'm about to come to a complete stop the spedo is at like 20-30 mph. It is accurate when accelerating and at a pace though. I never really observed my spedo while stopping before so tell me if this is all in my head and I'm retarded
