My 95 SSE climate control is skrewy. The heat and Air both work. It'* just that I'm helpless in chosing which one it will be. A couple of weeks ago we had 90 degrees here in MN, The air worked that day luckily. But ever since it'* just like the heat is on full bore, and anything I do won't help. The Temperature digits used to blink when I started the car but I haven't noticed it doing that for a while now. Is this a common problem? more importantly is there a common solution? Please let me know

What'* your current temperature setting (i.e. what temperature did you preset it for)? If it'* dialed down to 58º or pegged at the high end, whatever that is, get it back to something mid-range like 68º to start with. If it'* in Automatic mode at startup, then discovers it'* low on refrigerant, it'll blink the temperature setting at you for two minutes to say that it'* stored an error code. I _think_ that if it'* in Economy mode (which doesn't run the compressor) at startup, it _might_ not flash the temperature setting if no other errors are stored.

See if you've got a vacuum leak either under the hood or in the dash. If there'* no vacuum to operate the duct servo motors with, the controller can't do a whole lot to control the ventilation. (Hear any mysterious wheezing noises coming from the dash? If you override the automatic controls to dial up the windshield defrost setting, does it channel the air to the windshield ducts like it'* supposed to?)

Because your temperature display was blinking, you have a stored code. You need to retrieve that code to tell us what is wrong with your system. You can try the procedure in TechInfo, but I am not sure if it will work on a 1995.

Had the same problem. Have you ever disconnected your battery cable? I found out this is not a good idea when you have auto climate control. It screwed up the position of the vent door in the computer memory. Every time i started the car the temp lights would blink meaning that its throwing a code. Check the code if you can. What happened with mine is being that the vent door posistion in memory was lost, when i reconected the battery cable, somehow the door lost calibration. Hot air would come out when it was supposed to be cold and VIce Versa. I knew they both worked, it just had a mind of its own. To get it fixed i had to have the dealer reset the codes. Dont ingore it for too long. I had to disconenct my battery cable again, (Because twilight sentinel would not go off, both times), and the cliamte control started acting up again. I waited like a month to get it fixed. This time resetting the code wouldnt work any more. Apparently the gear that opens and closes the vent door is plastic, and it was now stripped! I had to get that replaced, and it was fixed again. Needless to say, I have never used my twilight sentinel lights again since then!

It switches to defrost fine and to all the vents like it'* supposed to, it'* just the temperature of the air that is the problem. What is involved in reseting the memory? Would unhooking the battery with the control set a certain way work. Or do I need to go to the Pontiac Garage. Do they have to tear the dash apart?

I personally have no way of finding the code. It hasn't blinked for a while either. With the symptoms I've explained, what are some of the possible codes that would come back?

Is that righ? if you disconnect the battery you skrew up your climate control? Give me a dail and a slide any day.

i'm not totally sure exaclty how it works JJ, he had a computer hooked up, went to the code, read it, cleared it, went to the climate control section, and was doing some adjustment on the ambient temp and the actual temp.
it wasnt expensive at all, the first time. getting the plastic gear replaced requires removing the dash, that was a little pricey...

I just found the procedure for checking codes in the techinfo. The code will display right on the control? I don't need fancy diagnostic equip?
