i purchased a 92 SE 3 days ago. it runs very strong. i had no huge problems until today. to the best of knowledge of cars, the car was somewhat sound mechanically. but when i shift into reverse or drive, it makes a hard thump into the gear, and now the car is starting to rev well into 5 or 6k when i accelerate from a stop. just my luck. :?

overall it revs freely like this unless i accelerate slowly when driving. seems like the transmission is slipping, but i really don't know alot about examining the transmission to find out. any ideas? i just moved to a new state, don't even know my way around, or a mechanic. im in need of some advice.

It does appear that it'* slipping and having an issue.

There are a few members in IA as I recall, maybe they could suggest a trans place to have it looked over.
