Crank shaft senor help
so my engine light somes come when ever it wants then goes off. and comes one like two weeks later then off. so I scanned it and got the code P0336 which means from what I see in my book "Crankshaft position sensor A circuit- Range or performance problem" so ummm what can I do to get my "girl" to stop bitching and running well. (I really really hate SRS lights) Thanks for your help

You can try unplugging the sensor and cleaning the contacts off with a electrical cleaner. Put some dielectric grease on the connection pins, plug it back in and try again. Also check the wires around the sensor and loom for any wear or damage. An intermittent problem like you are experiencing acts more like a corrosion or abraded wire.

I would have to agree. If the sensor was bad it would happen more. Clean up the plug real good, use some dielectric grease and see if that corrects the problem. There is always a chance the sensor is going out, but lets try this first.

Sounds like a good starting point you guys are great. Another concern is that if I do replace it it says I need a centering tool so the sensor doesn't hit it H.B. can it be done by eye ball or is the tool really a necessity

The earlier models were alignment versions. The Series II motors 95-05 NA and 96-03 SC do not require any alignment.
I've had the intermittant CKP issue in my car'* long past and it'* a pain. Nothing really says "change this sensor" and the car still seems to run pretty well. I took the chance on the $25 for the sensor and life has been great since. I'd suggest the sensor chance, but good diagnositics would put cleaning and general lookover first.
Very tough to see in this picture is the fine metal particles that are stuck in between the fingers that read the holes on the back of the harmonic balancer. I believed this to be the issue.
Due to the shield you can't get a good stream of water or air into the area to clean the sensor w/o removing the HB.
