Angry Bonne mowed down a fence and pinned a friend launched while in park!!!

My gf'* sister has a 1997 Bonne that was parked on a hill, in park, behind a fence. she walked around the fence to bring her baby to the sitter and the Bonne launched towards her (uphill) , mowed the fence down and pinned her to the grown! the sitter came out, observed the car sitting in Park. Put it in Reverse and backed it off of her. First: yes, she is OK; very bruised and under observation. Secondly: her bf drove the car home with no apparent issues. my gf looked it over (good with cars) and could not see any issues with shifting etc.

Bonne'* history
100,000+ on chassis
Maybe 75K on new motor installed last year
Regular maintenance.
No major repairs other than the engine replacement (broken rod), and cupole adjustments after the replacement.

I saw this on here

QUESTIONS
Do you think this car is safe?
Is there a specific area we should look over? (vacuum, electronic etc)
Throw if off a cliff?

That is very odd. Even if the car is in park and the parking prawl is not working, it wont go in to gear. Start with jacking up the front end and then try to turn the tire when in park. The tire will turn, but the other tire should turn the other direction.

Ah, another "Christine" eh?

I wish I had the technical knowledge to help.
I have a "Christine" myself. My 01 Cruiser, lots of incidents like this. She'* a 5 speed, so I can't help with the trans diagnosis. Nothing ever has been able to be explained through logic at all. She just randomly goes nuts, then everything is normal. My friends are genuinely afraid of her.

Hope you figure it out! That'* crazy!

If I were you, I would block the wheels and put the parking brake on at all times until you figure out whats going on with the trans. On, off, running or not. Block the wheels just to be on the safe side of things for now.
I would start by checking what Dan said, then I'd personally take it to a trans shop to have them test it, it has to be in the gear selection mechanics somewhere.
