I have a 93 Bonneville SSEI, really nice car, still looks like new inside and out, but the motor has almost 200K on it and is needing attention, as with the tranny needs bearings. I can get a smoking deal on a series 2 motor and tranny, computer and harness from a 97 riviera. My interchange manual says the 97 riviera motor is the same as the 96-99 bonneville motor.

So has anyone done this swap before or even know if it will work?

Yes, swaps have happened, and yes, it works.

You need the factory service manuals for both cars.
Engine, trans, full wiring harness, and PCM from the donor car.
You MAY need 96-99 Bonneville (L67) axles. I'd have to check on that, but the Riv axles may not work for you. Then again, your S1 L67 axles may be the same as 96-99. Again, something to check.

I thought the series 1 and 2 motors were almost the same.

You'd want to run with the newer computer for tuning and support.

Tuning an S1 is like personal tortue. Each performance mod you do.. you have to consider all the parameters and figure out new and ingenious ways to tune it.

Neither PCM will effectively control the 'other' motor. They are very much different motors. In addition, your 93 PCM cannot control the transmission from the Riv. I'm assuming the Riv has a 4T65E trans, which electrically modulates the TCC solenoid. The 4T60 which you have is vacuum modulated without as much PCM control.

The only thing you won't find for S1 is an intercooler. And if you give me enough money, I'll make you one.

Every other common performance part is readily available or easily DIY.

see I wasn't looking for performance, just a reliable daily driver. Looks like I am going to have to buy a junkyard motor and tranny to get the car good again.

Correct..if you are merely looking to motor swap..you want to put the right motor on the right pcm.
