Default Steering Wheel vibration

My car has been doing this since I bought it in March of 03. It seems like when I hit bumps, specificly bridge seams and the like, I get a good amount of movement in the steering columb. They dealer looked at it and said the column was loose and tightened it, but it is still there. Our GP doesnt do this and neither does my dads 96 Ultra. Thoughts?

Get your front struts checked.

There are a few Ways to tighten down the column. There'* the main brace right under the Cluster, which just tightens it. However if it is slightly loose in the bracing by the firewall, it'll pivot on the main one.

You need to tighten down the one under the Cluster, then go and tighten the bolts in the one by the firewall. You'll want some mad extensions, and socket pivots.

I did, I had an independent shop look at it in the spring of 04 after a trip to philla. I had to drive down a brick road in the historical down town area and thought I was going to lose the whole front steering/suspension it was so bad. The shop looked it over and said the front suspension/steering was 100%.

Yeah, feels like it column is held in by rubber bushings instead by hardware. But only on certain types of bumps, basicly the front tires have to hit at the SAME time.

If I grab the wheel and push up and down, it wont move.

Okay, The column is bolted hard to the rack, which has thin bushings to the subframe. You're feeling the engine bounce on the broken mount. Fix the motor mount and this will disappear.

I checked all (3) mounts just now and they look good. I guess after 101K I could try changing the dog bone and see if it helps, its only $21 at advance.

Does the drivers front mount ever go bad? I ask because I was looking at it and there is a rubber piece that is between the mount and the transmission that lays on the flat part, and that rubber piece is loose. I dont know what the rubber part does, but is held in by a plastic pin. I can grab the rubber piece and move it all around.

Wish I could post a pic.

Mine has the shock, but its not the rubber chunk that is glued to the two metal pieces that is loose. Its on the back side of the mount. Between the mount and the tranny.

Where is the 4th mount. So far all (3) that I have found are good, so maybe its the forth?
