Why don't you try this real quick:

I missed the part before where you mentioned a warning about taillights even though they seem to be working. I'm wondering whether you might have a ground problem back there that'* causing some weirdness to your fuel-pump circuit, which your repair order said had some problems with wiring.

Turn on the taillights, then stand in back of the car while an assistant steps on the brake. If any bulbs go out instead of getting brighter like they're supposed to, the offending bulb socket has a bad ground wire (it was using the other circuit as a ground instead; when both circuits go hot, the bulb goes out as a result). If they _all_ go out, you've got a broken ground connection at the body back there, and your taillight current, when the bulbs are lit, is going elsewhere instead for a ground path.

So what'* the story with "wires going to fuel pump not routed right" anyway? Was some wiring work done on the car in the past? I think the dealer guys were on to something when they found that, since of course they got the car working, but they're covering their butts in case there'* more undiscovered wiring problems under there.

Default dies and won't start

I had the exact same problem with my 96 SLE with the exception of the oil gauge. It turned out to be corroded terminals under the dash caused by a leaking windshield. It was really intermittent and caused a lot of aggravation. Since it was cleaned and rewired no problems (knock on wood). This is after a new fuel pump and filter, removing the remote starter and countless hours on the side of the road. Good luck.

Problem seems to be back a little...
Steve, funny you should mention... my windshield has a leak that seems to be getting worse. I'm having that fixed and will check the wiring under the dash. This sounds promising...

As far as the taillight test... I have not tried it yet but I will when I get home... I'll keep ya posted.

Good to hear fom you Phallout, hope it works out for you. I spent most of last winter at the side of the road and finally left the car at the dealership for a full week until they traced the problem. Since they've replaced the wiring it'* been fine since the spring.
Good luck and please let me know how it turns out.

Some food for thought, dont know the exact set-up on your year of Bonne, but in theory it should be the same. Had the same problem once with my IROC when I had TPI...I know TPI is different, but sounds like the same problem you "HAD" (hopefully). Good fuel pressure after installing new fuel pump and sock (45 psi), but would run a few days, then wouldnt start. Checked fuel pressure with a pressure gauge and would be fine, but then bleed down. Blocked off the fuel rail return line that runs back to the tank (thats the part I dont know about your Bonne, mine had a section of rubber hose -factory) and stopped the bleed down, fuel pressure regulator was bad. Unsure of how your year fuel system is plumbed, but worth a check if your car does it again. Used a cheap fuel line clamp to check with.

about 6 months after getting my 98se in 2001 it started stalling during driving like you describe and soon after I got the really hard starts, it would just crank and crank after sitting for a while...now keep this in mind, you probably have 2 problems here as these are not usually related symptoms... I took it to a reputable Pontiac dealer in philly and first to address the stalling; they changed the crank sensor and it never stalled while driving again. Soon after, I called the service manager there about the hard starts and he recommended changing the fuel pressure regulator for starters, as this is common he said and cheap to fix. I put the regulator in myself and that fixed the hard starts, see they loose their seal and flood the engine with fuel while sitting.

hope this helps... but contact some busy pontiac service depts. that made things so much easier for me
