Whats the best way to disable ABS?
Thursday when i was driving in the snow i noticed very long stopping distances when the abs kicked in. Did a couple of hard braking stops didn't even look like the back wheels were pulsing. Overall it didnt even feel like i was braking. So come Friday morning im doing 15 mph on a 45mph road coming to an intersection and i hear that whale moaning sound of the abs kick in and makes what should be a 10ft stop into a 40ft coasting and i rear end a Malibu. Now i lost my front grille and cracked the bumper on both sides. Nothing happened to her car. I think i will be better off without it for now. Should i take out the WSS on both wheels. Or just take the fuse out?

Try the parking brake in such a situation. That way if you go into a sideways skid into the car next to you, you can revert back to ABS. The parking brake is not affected by ABS.

Not that this is a good thing, but you can take out the 4D fuse from your panel for your chime sound. That will also take out most of your ABS. The best solution, however, is to get snow tires. Those grip like crazy!

IMO, ABS is the most effective means of stopping a car on icey roads. ABS pulses your brakes so you stop without locking them up, and sliding on the ice. Static coefficient of friction (no slippage between tire and road) is always higher than the kinetic coefficient of friction (stomp on your brakes causing the tires to slide).
If your ABS system is truly giving you longer stops than you could have without it, there is something wrong with your braking system.

Having driven the better part of my life before ABS, the ABS I consider a mixed blessing,... before you had to learn how to handle a skid, and you were much more responsible with the proper tread on your tires.
The main function of the ABS is balancing wheel advance. So, you tend to stay straight with some steering control.
That way you can choose what you are going to crash into.

Well first off my emergency brake cable broke and i dont think i will be fixing it anytime soon. I decided to take out the fuse. I did some stops in a wet parking lot without abs using the threshold braking, i had way shorter stops than with abs. Just got some new tires last year so i will try to get it in the shop to check the brakes.
