My car is drinking a ton of Gas any idea'* why ?
I have just noticed as of late that my 92 SSEi is drinking gas like crazy.
I drive roughly 30 miles (60 km) round trip to work & back per day and its drinking about a quarter tank just for this trip & it used to take about 1/8 of a tank or less.
I have been checking the tire pressure on a regular basis to make sure that its not due to that. There is little or no uphill driving & I'm not pushing it, the supercharger barely ever kicks in.
Anyone have any idea why its consuming so much gas all of a sudden or what to start with ?
Thanks in Advance,
Dutch

How many miles/km on your O2 sensor, plugs, and wires?
Deterioration of those items over time may lead to lower fuel mileage.

Ok..before we go too far.
Fill it up. Drive 100-200 miles or at least a 1/2 tank. Fill it up.. divide the miles driven by the gallons used.
I'd like to know what mileage you are getting before we suggest too much and have you waste time or money.

I'm not exactly sure how many km'* the car has on it because the dash that came with it has been repaired. Assuming that it is the original dash the car has about 225000 km'* (around 150000 miles).
This car was not maintained properly. From what I understand they did the basics but nothing more.
I'm trying to restore it to peak condition.
Since I got the car around 5000 km'* ago I've done the following;
Oil change & filter x 2
Air filter
Spark plugs
PCV valve
Belts
Water pump
Rad
Thermostat
Fuel filter
Fuel Pump & strainer
Fuel sending unit
Gas Tank
Magna Flow Cat
I have not changed the wires as I was tight for money at the time and they looked fairly new. I checked the coil pack to make sure it was alright.
No I haven't changed or checked the EGR, O2 or MAP sensors but it passed emissions.
I don't know if this is related or not but as of late the car doesn't seem to have the same pep as it did awhile ago. Seems to take alittle longer for the SC to kick in and the boost is going higher than it did before (around 3/4) before it starts pulling hard.
I'm wondering if this might be related to the TPS.
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance,
Dutch

You could also unscrew the 02 and look at the tip.
It should be a chalky grey color. If its dark charcoal color its running rich and probably needs changing.
