Default Lost First &Second Gear

I took our 1992 Bonneville SE out the other day to get coffee worked fine on the way up but when I left no first or second gear. The transmission shop that has it now said it is electrical, he thought the computer I took it home put a new one in but that didn't fix it , so I took it back to him he said had to be a wire or something, because when they short the selenoid it goes into first.I don't think they are finding the problem as its been there two days now any ideas where to look? The car has 167000 miles but has been maintained including trans, my wife would rather drive it than the 2004 bonny and it is a pretty good beater for winter driving. The transmission never slips or makes noise so I think he is right about electrical being the problem, but where? Thanks Dennis
