Default balance shaft

What is the purpose of the balance shaft in the 3800, would removing cause any adverse affects?

to remove the harmonics of the motor while its running, and its only removed when people install a double roller, and most dont remove they just remove the gear off the front of the shaft

people have removed it, but you need to plug the oil feed hole in the block or put dodge 440 cam bearings in, also there is a nasty vibration
