I have a 97 bonnie and I have had all sorts of AC problems. I fixed the vents(vacuum leak). I fixed the compressor(worked but was leaking all around the unit). I pulled all air out of the system and charges system with r 134 with oil. When I first charged the system I was able to get air flow to about 36 degrees. My filling gage broke so I did not know how much refrigerant was in the system. I bought a new gage and it showed me in the red around 100 PSI. I since then have removed some refrigerant and got it down to about 45 psi. It does not get cold now. So I have refilled with more refrigerant. It is better but not great. I was wondering if anyone knew the right amount for my car, I know all cars may vary. Also I am wondering if the only problem I have at this point is my refrigerant level. If you want to do it right(and all leaks are fixed?) you need to vent(empty) system.....start
with pulling a deep vacuum(you'll need a set of gauges and vacuum pump) then charge into that vacuum the PROPER amount(2.25lbs./36oz'*,double check that )of freon and around 2-4oz'*(depending on how much you lost or what part you replaced)
of PAG 150 oil.

you need to know what low AND high side pressures with Ambient temp are or your just pissing into
the wind and you'll never get it right..

just a qwick run down but you get the idea....

I have replaced the compressor. there are no leaks, I check when I vented(emptied) the system with a set of gages and a vacuum pump. I then went to fill and filled with 2 18 oz. freon cans 3 oz. of each can was oil. That made for a total of 30 oz. freon and 6 oz. oil. It worked pretty well. I did not check the pressure with the set of gages I was using. I checked with the gage that came with a freon kit. Worked ok until the next day. So I thought I would buy more freon thinking this might be the problem. I decided to purchase a can with a quick PSI gage on it. When I checked the PSI it read 90 to 100 PSI in the red. I discharge some freon and got to about 45 to 50 PSI. It didn't even get cool. So I figured 45 PSI was an inaccurate, that is why I was asked about proper PSI. I know that 45 is an average not all cars use that amount. So I guess I should have put 6 oz.more in system and not discharged accdoring to what you are saying. I have since added a little freon and the system seems to be cooling around 43 to 47 degrees. I am not up on how to use these gages I borrowed from a friend. So guess I either have to learn or take my car to a garage that can properly charge it.

What Daman is saying is that the proper pressure you need to 'fill to' is dependant on the temperature outside. Someone will post some kind of chart I hope.

thanks alot. I hope someone does. I still have the gages that I borrowed from a friend. It is much better then it was when I bought the car. But I drive about 1 hour and 20 minutes one way to work so, I need it to seriously cool me down. I work in 40 to 70 all day and then walk outside to 90 or 100 degress, yummy. Anyway thanks again.

No Pennsylvania. today was 88. last week one day we hit 102 and 93 two other days. and humid.

Can you post low and high pressures,with Ambient temp?? you need to do this
with a set of gauges not that cheap junk that comes with the cans of freon i
need to stress this...

and you need to find what factory spec is for freon, and pressures with Ambient temp, i would look but my brother has my books. ,if you added two 18 oz cans your
short on freon(6oz'*),also do not add any more oil you got plenty now

also is your fans coming on all right?? , pressures need to be checked with AC on MAX
doors open and fan on high..

get your gauges and i can talk you through it

This is the best Picture I could get. I think I did this correctly according to the directions of the gages. A friend of mine that runs a garage told me my low ambient is between 20 - 40 PSI. The high should be 150 - 250 PSI depending upon the temp. outside. It was about 93 to 96 today. So he said the high should be closer to 200 - 250. If you can see on the pic I am around 30 PSI on the low and 220 on the high. Is this where I wanna be? It seems to be working pretty well idling. But the compressor seems a little noisy. yup your close that'* for sure , is your fans both working/right???

Also can you tell me about how much freon you got into the system, 30oz'* right???
