Default Resonator Removal?

Has anyone done this? I'm pondering if I should do it to my 94 SSE to get a little more sound out of it and just replace it with a straight pipe, BUT I will keep the CAT!

They didn't start using the resonator until 1994, so I didn't have to mess with it....Somebody here already did it.....SSEi95? I don't remember. I know what my SSEi and JSeabert'* SSE sound like without one, but we have factory headers, too. You ever hear an I/O boat with a V6 running at idle on the street? That'* what my car exhaust reminds me of. Very throaty.....sounds 'cammy'.

I haven't done that.....yet. I will be doing 3" pipe, with Cat, without resenator, and a flowmaster muffler. I have heard the flowmasters on a v8 that had no resenator and it sounded oh so sweet! I know a v8 will sound different that a v6 but what the hell. Won't know unless I try. My new exhaust will be going on after the first of the year. Got to wait for the $$$.

Allmachtiqe, don't go with the 3" exhaust on a NA bonnie......it'll rob backpressure and tourque.....I'd keep the stock size, but go for higher flow with the cat and remove the resonator, since you've already started with the muffler. You're looking at maybe 200 bucks max to finish your exhaust.

Yup, should have mentioned that stuff too. I will be getting a CAI, 2.4 pulley, and maybe a few other goodies at the same time so the 3" will help me but it will hurt a stock (or nearly stock) NA engine. I got the SC so my engine will have a higher airlfow that will utilize the 3" size.

From the tips all the way up to my resonator is new piping....can't I just install a straight pipe where the resonator is? $200 is out of the question just for that!

No, I was thinking about $200 for the hi-flo Cat AND resonator piping.

64.01mm Hehe! Had to do that for our neighbors to the north

Make that 2.52", subtract for rust, and you'll get the answer!

Subtract rust? So about 2 1/4 inch?
