Default anyone ever have THIS problem?

O.K., I just bought a 94 SE. Car is in GREAT shape. Grandpa driven, 120k miles. I have only had the car for about 900 miles. Right after I bought the car I was driving along and it stalled and would turn over but not restart. I waited exactlt 5 minutes, started the car and everything was fine. A week or so later I moved from Ohio to Chicago in the car and still no problems. Then yesterday it stalled again. Same thing....wait 5 minutes, start car, no problem. Then again today, car stalled. This time car wouldn't start even after 45 min. Cops stopped and I had to have $160 TOW!!!!!!!!!!! I tried to start it at home and still no go. I go to class and come back 2 hours later and same thing. Then as I'm trying to listen for fuel pump kicking on and turn key too far, the damn thing started again. WTF? Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a check engine light? You live in illynoise? You may be near J Wikoff to benefit from his scantool (assuming he has the right cable).

Sounds rather reminiscent of a bad crank sensor, but don't shotgun it just yet.

Default maybe this?

forgot to ask, could this have to do with the VATS system. I only got one key plus the problem seems to just happen randomly so it'* hard to see if it'* the actual key. Or maybe I'm way off. I just started school and got hired for a new job and need my car. Please help!!!
Yes, just moved to Chicago and would appreciate any help. No check engine light but the airbag and ABS lights are on.

It'* not VATS. Vats (Passkey) will not stall a running car. It will only prevent a start.

O.K., no check engine light but the door chime sounds like 5 times real fast when the car won't start.

Behavior sounds like a bad crank sensor, but I don't have the proper cable for a 94/95 OBD1.5.

I got no clue about the chime. But if you're close, I'd be happy to help you diagnose.

3 hours away... I'm not up for that trip. Post a thread in General titled "Help in Chicago?" or change the title of this thread to hopefully get some attention.

I understand. I appreciate you even consider helping stranger. I have ALL kinds of respect for the owners of these cars now. Reminds me of comrodery my uncle deals with in his crazy love of the early to mid 90'* Mercury Tracer LTS. That'* not a misprint. I think I'm going to just chance replacing crank sensor and see what happens.

Find an autoparts store like Autozone willing to scan the car for free and it might help point you in the right direction.
