Default Quick Tension Pulley question

First let me apologize for such an easy question. I have a Chilton repair manual, and this thing has turned out to just about be the worst book I've ever bought when it'* comes to the Bonne. I need to replace my tension pulley on my car, it'* shifting left and right when the car is in idle. I was just wondering if replacing it is as easy as it looks, or if I need to be on the watch for something popping out at me. I found the part for 17 bucks, the guy tried selling my the whole assembly for just under $100.00. Should I replace the whole entire thing? Again, so sorry for this question, I really did think something so small woulda been in the book. Thanks for the help-

Unless the tensioner gives some type of indication that it is bad (sloppy, not enough tension on the belt, etc.) there would be no reason to replace that. The pulley is as easy as it looks, except for two things. First, it has a left handed thread, so you'll have to turn it in the opposite direction from what you're used to doing. Second, remembering how the belt was routed.

Assuming your car is a 95-99, I have a tensioner pulley assembly for sale.

Make me an offer.

The direction of threads varies by year.

It would be nice to know what model/trim level/year and engine we're talking about here.

As a general rule, if you turn counter clockwise to release pressure from the belt, then that is your tighten on the bolt. Aka reverse threads. It depends on which pulley on what make/model of the car.

One more question if anyone is still paying any attention to this post. Is it normal for the tension pulley to shift a little left and right during normal movement? Or should it be in place, just helping to move the belt? Sorry for the question, I'm trying to learn as much about this car as I can, and i'm just kinda learning as I repair

It is bascailly a spring loaded pulley. It'* only job it to provide a constant pressure on the belt. Actually designed for a specific value of pressure. If it doesn't seem to hold consistent or constant pressure you will want to change the assembly.

Sounds to me like only the pulley is moving, not the whole tensioner. But I think we need some clarification.
