Change auto lock mode to off
1996 Bonneville SE 3.8L Not supercharged. No keyless entry
This is a recent purchase and I would like to turn off the Auto Lock feature.
This is what it says in the owners manual:
If your vehicle is not equipped with Remote Keyless Entry, use the following procedure to change modes: 1. Close all doors and turn the ignition on. Keep all doors closed throughout this procedure. 2. Press and hold the driver’* power door lock switch through Step 3. 3. Cycle the PARK (P) shift lever starting in PARK (P) position to advance by one mode. 4. Release the power door lock switch.
My question is on step 3...What do they mean by cycle the shift lever? Is it shift from Park to Rev. and back to Park?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
(I did the Park to Rev to Park and it did not work)

Thank You Randall, I shall give that a try tomorrow. Surely there is somebody out there that has changed their Auto Lock Mode. From the factory it is set at 3 and I just need to advance it one position to 1. This car does odd things. The VAT System caused me to walk to work a couple time so I did the bypass (found the orange covered 2 white wires cut it an placed a resistor matching the key)put it all back together and the car started right up. Couple days later, I try to start it to go to work and I hear that rapidly clicking relay and it would not start. Walked to work , came home at noon, tried the car and it fired up w/o hesitation. Maybe it is just moody? lol
