power steering leak
I have a leak in the hose theat comes out of the top rear of the power steering pump... is this the pressure line or the return line? and once I figure out which line it is, is this repair anything that a novice should even consider... autozone wants about $40 for the hose so I figure if someone else does the repair it would run me arouns $100 or more and money is definately an object...

sorry I forgot to add the details... when I was checking it looks like the leak is coming from the bottom of the hose that comes out of the top rear of the pump OR the distribution block that the hose goes into... I haven't had a change to jack up the car and check for sure yet... but I am pretty sure it is the hose.

I remember the return line having a hose clamp around it, while the pressure line was much more substantial. The hardest part will be not getting any air in there. As soon as you take the hose off it is going to start pouring out, so you will have to plug the hole fast. Then once you put the new hose on you will have to bleed the system.

I did see a hose clamp at the top end of the hose... like I said I have not gotten underneath to check the other end yet. To bleed the system is that whne I would have to jack up the front end and crank the wheels from side to side? I read your post about changing the power steering fluid and I wasn't sure if it was something I even wanted to tackle.

That'* how you do it! But that never got all of my air out - I still think there may be a little in there. Don't do what I did and turn on the car with the hose connected. It sucks the old stuff down so fast you'll get all kinds of air in there.
